Supporting those with lived and living experience
Suicide Bereavement Support Group
This group is for those 18 years of age and older who are grieving the loss of a loved one to suicide. The group meets in Brandon, once per month, and is held in the evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. The group usually meets on the second last Wednesday of the month from September through June.
A virtual option to join the group is available for those who may be at a distance; have to contend with weather and/or road conditions; or have obligations that make it difficult to attend in person.
A lending library of books related to grief and loss is available to support individuals and families on their grief journey.
For more information about the group or to join/attend, please send an email to: brandonareaSBSG@gmail.com and a Group Facilitator will connect with you.
Recovery Champions
What is Recovery?
Recovery is about healing, growing, and building a good life. It means using your strengths like support from family, culture, spirituality, and community to move forward. Recovery includes making your own choices and feeling more in control of your life, even when you are dealing with mental health or addiction challenges. It is supported by positive self-belief, caring relationships, and safe, supportive environments that build hope and confidence.
What does it mean to provide recovery oriented care?
Getting treatment is important, but it is not the final goal — recovery is. These services focus on people’s strengths, hope, feeling included, building confidence, and staying connected to their community. Service providers and clients work together as a team. Care is person-centered and looks at the whole person, including things like where they live, their education, their work, and their relationships.
Who we are
We welcome Prairie Mountain Health staff, community partners, and people and families with lived & living experience to be part of our committee. We especially want people with lived & living experience to share their voices, ideas, and experiences, because your story and perspective matter. Many of our members have personal experience with mental health or addiction challenges, either their own or through someone they care about. People from all programs and organizations are welcome to join. If you are passionate about making services more hopeful, respectful, and person-centered we would love to have you join us!
